The New Epic Taiko Ensemble Kontakt VST-AU-AAX Samples overview

The New Epic Taiko Ensemble is the most comprehensive and deep-sampled collection of large-scale Epic Taiko Ensembles on the market. The library is a completely remastered, redesigned and reprogrammed edition of our original Epic Taiko Ensemble. The New Epic Taiko Ensemble contains over 2.900 samples, two microphone positions, built-in articulation browser, internal step-sequencer, front-face FX, textural convolutions and our newest 3.4 Chaos Engine.

The New Epic Taiko Ensemble features the highly renowned Taiko Ensemble group: Emeryville Taiko lead by master, Susan Horn. The recordings lasted over a week, which allowed us to capture an unprecedented amount of content. Epic Taiko Ensemble contains four main categories of samples: Multi-sampled Taiko Ensemble (10 round robin for all articulations), Live Loops of the Taiko Ensemble and an assortment of other sounds associated to Taiko (ex. ensemble screams, yells, yell-hits, percussive cannon (Tekkan) and presets.

Epic Taiko Ensemble follows the same principles established in our other epic percussion libraries in terms of articulations, velocity layering and round robin. Articulations have up to 8 velocity layers and all sampled at 10 round robin (aka repetitions). We sampled all the classic Taiko drums from the big sounding, O-Daiko, Nagado Daiko to the smaller and more snare like, Shime. In addition we also played the drums with hands and alternative stick types – and we got the most comprehensive collection of clacks made with different type of sticks and by hitting the rims of the larger Taiko drums.

In addition we also recorded a comprehensive amount of ensemble loops with the Taiko Ensemble. The loops were recorded at 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130 and 140 BPM. The loops are intended to be used as stand-alone and/or in combination with the multi-samples. The loops contain both classic Taiko style rhythms and more contemporary rhythms for film scoring etc.

The library was recorded in the same signature hall used for our Solo Taiko Drum and Epic Frame Drums. We highly recommend purchasing both Epic Taiko Ensemble and Solo Taiko Drum, since they use the same drums, microphone perspectives and gives you the necessary depth to create completely realistic Taiko performances. The two libraries were recorded in the same Cathedral environment. Solo Taiko Drums contains over 4.200 samples – coverering the entire Taiko family from Daiko’s to Shime’s – with over 60 different articulations.

Integrated Browser

The New Epic Taiko Ensemble contains a new integrated browser that gives you instant access to the entire library collection. The browser allows you find any articulation in the library with a single click and with virtually no load-time. The browser also gives you access to master articulations – where you have the entire set of Ensemble Taikos laid out on the keyboard for maximum control, ease-of use and instant fun.

Textural Convolutions

Textural Convolutions is a new way of using convolution to create textural delays. The idea is to use non-conventional convolution impulses to augment the existing sound. So when the instrument delays – you will not just get a normal delay of the instrument, but also get the delay and texture of the convolution. This concept is called Textural Convolutions and we hand-crafted over 130 impulses for the Taiko Ensembles. The Textural Convolutions can also be randomized.

Internal Sequencing

The New Epic Taiko Ensemble comes with a built-in step-sequencing – allowing you to program the ensemble with ultra precision and tightness. The step-sequencer allows you to create advanced rhythms in any signature rhythm and with both velocity layering and round-robin. In addition you can choose what tempo you want it to play at and even play in triplets too.

Front-Face Effects

The New Taiko Ensemble contains an entire new set of effects on the front of the user interface. You have instant control over dynamics, filters, pitch and micro-pitch, delays, bit-crusher and our new textural convolution delay called transform, which contains over 130 custom textural delays. You also have control over microphones and EQ, which are placed on the sides of the effects section.

Microphone

The New Epic Taiko Ensemble contains two different microphone positions, which can easily be loaded/unloaded and mixed from the front interface. The first microphone position is our close microphone, which required a tricky set of microphone placements to get just right. The second microphone position is further back in the cathedral and designed to be mixed with the close mics for a larger, yet tight sound perspective.

Immediate FX

Our new 3.4 FX CHAOS Engine gives you deep access to Filters, Step-Based Filter Sequencer, EQ, Bit-Crusher, Distortion, Dual-Stereo Delay, Convolution Reverb and our new expanded Transform section, which now contains over 130 impulses, including our new textural convolutions. The 3.4 FX CHAOS Engine also allows you to randomize each effect with a single click.
